With the fertile Mediterranean soil's alternating clay and limestone, these wines exude ripeness and concentration. The nearby Mediterranean Sea adds a refreshing touch, making them remarkably quaffable. Expect a distinctly Catalan character in these wines.
Toni Carbó and Ramon Jané, hailing from Penedès, Catalonia, have been inseparable since age 15. Raised among the vines like their fathers and grandfathers, the duo delved into oenology after finishing school. In 2002, they unleashed their curiosity, tinkering with grape varieties in their garage and creating an annual batch of 300 liters. The result? A wine that can't help but make you smile.
In 2006, they made the bold move to no longer sell their grapes for bag-in-box supermarket wine. Toni and Ramon, along with Ramon's wife Mercé, have vineyards in various locations outside of their own family's. Lately, each of their wines have received their own unique labels, highlighting their distinct origins. Mercé's wines are labeled as "Mas Candí", Ramón Jané's are sold under his own name, and Toni and his wife Anna's are known as "La Salada", produced in their very own cellar.
The Jané clan has been cultivating vineyards in the Penedès for generations. Up until 2006, the grapes were sold to the top cava producers in the area. But when Ramón inherited the business, he decided to go green and produce organic cava. And then he went even further by also making still wines from the native grape varieties with minimal interference.
